Today’s post is a no-brainer. Everyone who knows me will confirm that this is one of my favorite mantras:
💥 Frustration is a function of poor communication and misaligned expectations.
It’s not about what happened. It’s about what you thought was going to happen.
🔹 Your team isn’t frustrated because the work is hard. They’re frustrated because no one told them how hard.
🔹 Your customer isn’t upset because of a delay. They’re upset because they didn’t expect one.
🔹 Your colleague isn’t angry because of what you did. They’re angry because they assumed you’d do something else.
🔥 Frustration is the wreckage left behind when words fail and assumptions take over. And here’s the gut punch—if you’re constantly frustrated, it’s probably your fault.
You assumed they understood. You expected them to read between the lines. You mistook silence for agreement.
⚡ Fix it.
Say What You Mean. Confirm They Heard It. Align Before You Assume.
✅ Say what you mean. No hints. No vague promises. Be clear.
✅ Confirm they heard it. Not just that they nodded. That they actually got it.
✅ Align before you assume. Expectations kill relationships when they’re unspoken.
Frustration is predictable. Which means it’s preventable.
So next time you’re frustrated, ask yourself—was it them? Or was it you?
